How to: Make S.M.A.R.T goals

How to: Make S.M.A.R.T goals

Welcome to week one of our 2023 Growth Workshop! ❤️

Throughout January we’re talking all things *goal setting* so over the next couple of weeks, here you'll find tips and tricks in regards to setting yourself goals for 2023 🥂

However before you start making goals for yourself, there’s a few things you need to do first! ✨

You need to think of the types of goals you’re setting for yourself, and you need to think about how sustainable they are! The reason most goals fail, is because they aren’t relatable or realistic!

👀 So how do we create realistic goals? 👀

We need to adapt the S.M.A.R.T method to our goal setting strategy! S.M.A.R.T is an acronym used to describe the process of setting goals. The acronym stands for:

S - Specific
M - Measurable
A - Achievable
R - Relevant
T - Time-based

This S.M.A.R.T method provides a way to measure your progress and be accountable for your success! ..see, I told you it’s not that complicated, now allow me to break it down even further for you and give you some examples 🙌

👉 Specific Goals

When you create a goal for yourself, you need to make sure that it’s specific.. it has a purpose, it’s factual. Something that’s set in stone, that you can rely on and not something that you can get confused over.

For example: “I want to wake up earlier each morning to have more time for my morning routine”

👉 Measurable Goals

You should be able to define what evidence will prove you’re making progress and re-evaluate when it’s necessary.

For example: “I'll start by setting my alarm at 7:00 this week and each week set it earlier by 30 minutes. Plus, I’ll write in my planner the time when I actually woke up to measure my progress.”

👉 Achievable Goals

Make sure that you can reasonably accomplish your goal within a certain amount of timeframe, don’t set yourself up for failure by creating a goal that you know you won’t be able to complete. This goal has to be realistic to you and your lifestyle.

For example: “my schedule allows me to go to bed at a decent time each night, so waking up earlier won’t take many hours of rest”

👉 Relevant Goals

The goals you set for yourself should align with your personal values and long-term objectives!

For example: “My morning routines are filled with social media, and I feel rushed trying to get to work each day, so waking up earlier should allow me to feel calmer and more relaxed”

👉 Time-Based Goals

You need to set a realistic and easily achievable end-date for your goal, so it helps motivate you to keep going and to accomplish your goal! If your goal doesn’t have an end date, over time you will begin to lose motivation/drive..

For  example: “I would like to accomplish this new morning routine within four weeks, and my end goal is to be able to wake up 2 hours earlier than I usually wake up now”

🫶 Where do I go from here?  🫶

In your planner (or whatever it is you have to hand) and using the S.M.A.R.T method above you will start writing down some goals for yourself! If you have a Planning Journal, you'll be able to utilise the "Hopes + Dreams" Roadmap!

Some of my 2023 Goals are:

- To start trying new dishes
- To work on my marketing skills
- To wake up earlier (carrying this on from 2022)
I want you to remember that setting goals for yourself is supposed to be fun and exciting!

So make it a memorable thing, make yourself your favourite beverage, get comfortable and start thinking about how you would like to make 2023 for you!
